Emergency E-Learning Days eliminate the loss of instructional time during unscheduled school closures. If an Emergency E-Learning Day is necessary, it is considered a regular school attendance day and does not need to be made up at the end of the school year. 

The purpose of an Emergency E-Learning Day is to continue learning opportunities for students in the event that school needs to close. Teachers and students will use the district’s 1:1 technology resources to provide students with relevant, meaningful and manageable assignments that students can engage in when school has been canceled.  The goal is to minimize disruption to the academic progress caused by emergency school closures and to make emergency days as educationally productive and engaging as possible.

Fenton High School has put an E-Learning program in place that meets the requirements of the Illinois State Board of Education and was approved by the Fenton High School District Board of Education and the DuPage County Regional Office of Education. 

Here are a few Questions and Answers that will help explain Fenton’s E-Learning Program: 

Q: How will we know that an E-Learning day is planned? How will we be notified?

A: When possible, E-learning day decisions will be made by 10 p.m. the previous night. All parents and students will be notified by email and voice messages will be sent via telephone. A message will also be posted on the Fenton website. 

Q: How will student attendance be documented?

A: Students will be required to take attendance with a unique Fenton application via the link that teachers will post in Google Classroom under the “E-learning” topic. Students will check-in during their second-period classes and their seventh-period classes by 1:00 pm.

Q: How does the district ensure all students have access to instructional materials from home?

A: Fenton has provided Chromebooks to all students and all E-Learning materials and activities will be delivered through Google Classroom and the student Chromebooks. For our students to work off-campus, familiar tools, such as Google Forms, email, and Google Classroom will be used to provide learning opportunities. 

Q: Do all students have WIFI access at home? 

A: Well over 90% of our families have Wifi access in their homes. The local library facilities also provide study spaces with Wifi access for our students during their normal operating hours. To ensure all students have affordable options for internet service at home, Fenton has partnered with Sprint (Connect Ed), Comcast (Internet Essentials) and  AT&T (AT&T Access) to provide low or no-cost options to assist our families to obtain internet service. In addition, Wifi hotspots are available in the Academic Resource Center (ARC) for checkout by students. These hotspots provide Wifi access for the student’s Chromebook in order to support any Fenton related online needs. 

Q: How are assignments provided to students?

A: All assignments will be provided to students through Google Classroom and/or email directly from each of their teachers. Work is designed to be asynchronous. Teachers post lessons at 9 a.m. on the day of E-learning. 

Q: What happens if the student can’t perform the work on an E-Learning day?

A: If a student is unable to participate during the E-learning day, accommodations will be made to assist them in making up the missed work. Students must notify their teacher as soon as they can (or when they return to school) if they cannot complete the work.
